About me
Alexander Bader, 50 plus and young with it, living in the Leutasch valley. The person who picks you up in the morning is the same person who explains the day to you.
Who drives, and who guides?
I once learned something completely different: cooking. Around eighteen years as a chef were enough, then came a complete turning point and I became a hiking guide, for seven years. That job no longer existed in this form, so I went back to school for two years and learned something new again: Austria Guide, a licensed city and tour guide.
In Austria that is not so easy. You need an examination, a trade licence and insurance. In return the guest has the guarantee of a well founded tour.
Even back then I wanted to transport my guests myself, but that was only possible in rather complicated ways. Since 2021 the law has been different, and I took the chance to open an additional business: I am allowed to drive a taxi myself, and even to run a taxi company. Drive & Guide grew out of that.
Four turning points
Kitchen
A chef, eighteen years
Trained and stayed, until it was enough. What is left of it: a good sense of where the food is genuinely worth stopping for.
Mountains
A hiking guide, seven years
Seven years with guests in the mountains. After that the job no longer existed in that form.
Exam
Austria Guide
Two years of training, then the examination for the licensed city and tour guide, with a trade licence and insurance on top.
At the wheel
Drive & Guide, since 2021
Since the taxi trade was regulated differently I drive my guests myself. Driver and guide have been the same person ever since.
From Tyrol in every direction
Tours start in Tyrol, in Bavaria, in South Tyrol, in Salzburg or in Switzerland and travel in all directions: to Italy with Merano, Bolzano, Trento, the Dolomites and the Val Venosta, to Bavaria with Munich, Bad Tölz, Augsburg, Neuschwanstein Castle, Lake Chiemsee and Burghausen, to Switzerland with Lucerne, Chur, Zurich, Bern, St. Gallen and Interlaken, and of course to Salzburg, Lake Constance, the Königssee, Krimml and Kitzbühel.
